This project consisted of an addition and renovation to an existing two-story brick and concrete structure, which also had a basement. The addition was a four-story steel framed structure located west of the original building. CMU walls surround the first-floor parking garage on grade and are utilized for the southwest stair shaft at the corner of the garage. A pair of steel trusses helped facilitate the structure’s ability to span over the open space of the parking garage. On top of the existing structure, two new steel-framed floors were added that each have an outdoor patio at the front that successively step back from the original front façade and look out on the Roebling Suspension Bridge. To compensate for the added weight on the existing structure, micro-piles were utilized to help reinforce the existing foundations. The primary addition itself was supported on augercast pile foundations. A glass elevator alongside a winding stair over the front entry help link the original structure with its four-story addition.
